Marcelo Fernandes, Founder of Abode1, Partners with FIU School of Architecture

Doing great work for preservation and sustainability is a priority for real estate broker and developer Marcelo Fernandes.  Fernandes brings more than 30 years of award-winning design and building expertise to all his projects through his other companies, Oxford Universal and Grove Properties. In association with the FIU School of Architecture, Fernandes is a founding member of a non-profit organization, ARC+ (Architectural Research Collaborative). ARC+ was founded to “empower education and research into sustainable solutions for Miami” with the goal of “harnessing the creative energy of architecture and the power of collaboration to create sustainable cities."

Fernandes said this isn’t only about green design and just using energy-efficient materials. It also involves the “creation of products and systems that leave a light footprint on the environment over the full life-cycle—from production to transportation, installation, use, and renewal.” Fernandes is also committed to making ALL of his new projects LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) either certified or equivalent, although there are many challenges to building green. “There are very few architects, vendors, and manufacturers that are committed to being green since it requires much more effort and time investment to make it happen," says Fernandes.

Whether it’s launching Abode1, an all-exclusive full-service virtual real estate company, or his involvement with his other companies, Oxford Universal and Grove Properties, Fernandes says it only made sense to help found ARC+ due to his passion for preservation and sustainability. Fernandes shares the vision of ARC+ as the non-profit’s vision is to “create meaningful platforms for community involvement and collaboration that drive innovative economic development to build a more sustainable city.”

About Abode1

Igniting the power of technology

The Multiple Listing Services was created in the 1800s. It was designed by realtors to help realtors gather and share information about properties.

Today, the MLS listing empowers every online real estate platform in the United States. From independent agents to search giants such as Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com, every real estate website depends on the MLS to gather and share information. Billions of marketing dollars are spent in this industry to promote all listings found on the MLS. This industry focuses on maximizing technology to empower the average home buyer to shop online and successfully find their home. Abode1 now connects buyers directly to sellers instead of referring them to an agent that most of the time is not even the listing agent but rather an agent paying the search engine provider for a lead.

The process bypasses traditional realtor services. This is where Abode1 comes in. Using the MLS and new efficiencies in printing, video, photography, and online solutions, we can provide professional real estate services at a fraction of the cost without sacrificing quality.

Good things happen when technology is used to service customers because opportunities arise, efficiencies get created, and solutions become a reality. Buyers are searching online without realtors, so we invite you to sell your home directly. Our professional support is all-inclusive for a 1% fee, and we have all the tools you need.
