Air Conditioning System Fundamentals

Air conditioning begins with altering the temperature of the ambient air. Generally, when hot or warm air is pulled into an air conditioning unit, it passes over cold, low-pressure evaporator coils. A whole system of ducts is generally used for central air conditioning in homes as it creates the pushing and funneling of air to and from the snake-like coils, cooling the entire interior of the house.

Condenser coils are responsible for pushing out the extra heat and warm air back outside. This warm air comes from the heat created from the evaporator coils changing from a liquid to a gas and back to a liquid over and over. This reaction is what is responsible for making that hot outside air cool and relaxing inside air.

Types of Air Conditioners - Duct or Ductless?

There are two main air conditioning system types; duct and ductless. Air ducts are generally already installed in most average homes across the United States. These are made from sheet metal and hidden away inside of a home's walls. They are normally used for cooling and also for heating systems as well. In homes located in areas of high humidity, ducted air conditioning systems are the better option.

Ductless air conditioning systems are designed to send refrigerant to small air handlers installed in specific rooms or areas throughout a home. This allows for air conditioning to be delivered to specific areas instead of an entire house. If there is no space for a ducted system or a homeowner wants to decrease the overall amount of dust in a home, then a ductless unit may be the better option.

Signs That a Central Air Conditioning Unit Might Need Repairhvac

There are several warning signs that a homeowner should look out for regarding their air conditioning and if something is wrong. Mitigating these factors can help save money and keep homeowners level-headed in the summer heat or winter cold. Identifying or noticing issues early can keep repairs small and costs at bay before it becomes a big problem. Here are some signs that the unit might need repair:
  • Loud noises coming from the inside of the ducts or air conditioning units
  • Water or Freon leaking from the unit
  • The unit is 10 years old or older.
  • Bad or strange odors coming from the unit when it is turned on
  • Little or no air seems to be blowing out of the vents or certain vents.
  • The air conditioning unit is blowing out warm air.
  • If the air conditioning unit never turns off or is not communicating with the thermostat correctly.

The Extreme Importance Behind Indoor air Qualityair quality

Breathing is something every person does, so much so it is an involuntary action the body does on its own. Something so simple keeps everything in the human body functioning. Good air is vital to a good life. The quality of air that is breathed in has substantial effects on a person's well-being.

It can cause reduced productivity, impaired learning, and even sick building syndrome. This can be due to various things from dust to gas, particles, mold, and other microbial contaminants. Having a qualified technician check the indoor air quality of a home is beyond valuable for one’s family.

Air quality is checked by taking air samples, reviewing human exposure, and examining the airflow inside the home. Many benefits can arise almost immediately from correcting bad indoor air quality. With good air filtration systems, a homeowner can prevent molds, germs, and pollutants from coming in and growing inside the home.
