Former Fashion Designer Turned Therapist Rises to the Occasion
Leveraging Privilege for Equal Access to Mental Health Resources
Shortly after launching her masks for mental health initiative, many therapists and practitioners began raising awareness around the additional barriers that people of color must overcome to access quality mental and physical health support they need. Acknowledging her privilege, platform and skills, Dr. Macaluso again sprang into action. In addition to joining the conversation regarding the lack of mental health support available to people of color, she offered to donate mask proceeds to The Loveland Foundation, a non-profit that helps black women and girls in the U.S. access mental health resources nationally and afford therapy.
Dr. Nae Returns to Home State of New York, Supports Community Safety with Masks
Since April, when Dr. Macaluso launched her donation focused facemask company, she has raised over $3000 in support of mental health programs and supplied hundreds of environmentally friendly masks to people all over the country. Dr. Nadine recently moved back to her home state of New York, where she is building a new private therapy practice and working with local schools and organizations to provide school-aged kids with free masks as they return to in-person school. Dr. Macaluso has donated 100 kid's masks to various schools and organizations on Long Island; amongst these is St. Paul's nursery school and the YMCA nursery school in Glen Cove, New York, where Nadine now resides.
Keeping Cancer Survivors Safe & Proud
In addition to all of these efforts, Dr. Nadine's most recent initiative was the launch of a light pink breast cancer mask in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (September). A two-time survivor herself, she offered a free mask to any breast cancer survivor, and also made the mask available for purchase, with all proceeds being donated to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The masks sold out within two days of launch.
A Passion for Philanthropy
Dr. Nadine has truly illustrated that it is possible to take a catastrophic situation like a global pandemic and turn it into an opportunity to be of service to others and support worthy causes. Her can-do attitude and passion for helping people is, in part, due to her prior marriage to the Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort. Rather than be defined by the chaotic years she endured being married to the Wolf, she not only survived, but learned to thrive and now wants to help others do the same. An intuitive and tough Brooklyn girl at heart, Dr. Nadine knows the importance of staying connected and supported through traumatic experiences, such as the pandemic we are all enduring.
