How To Create a Festive HVAC System

Its that time of year again when everyone decorates their homes for the holidays. Festive lights strung from rooftops, snow-covered wreaths hanging in windows and doors, colorful garland and tinsel draped all around. And there it sits, that ugly HVAC unit, sticking out like a sore thumb.

The good news, is there are plenty of ways to decorate your HVAC system. This article will cover some of the best ways to decorate just about every aspect of your HVAC system, so even while your toasty warm inside, your HVAC system will be in the holiday spirit too!

Take Your Outdoor Unit to a Winter Wonderland

However, that outdoor unit doesn’t have to be a grinch of an eyesore. Instead, be creative, wrap strands of lights around the system to match the rest of your decor.

Another idea is to place a decorated structure over your unit. Think snoopy’s dog house and just run with it. After making the structure to sit over the unit, paint it in a festive decore or craft it into a Christmas tree.

If you are not that handy, there are commercial solutions that can be purchased to cover the units without causing damage. After purchasing the cover, decorate it with the latest holiday theme. Lastly and probably the easiest way to “decorate,” is to just hide it. Place some type of decor in front of it, like a holiday inflatable, and you’re well on your way to some holiday cheer.

Protect Airflow and Decorate Your Vents

Whatever route you choose to decorate your HVAC system some precautions should still be taken to ensure it’s working as it should. Covered air vents would not allow air to flow properly and would damage the unit. Restricted air ducts can also put a strain on the airflow, leaving you and your family uncomfortable in the winter.

However, you can still hide those vents with some tinsel or snowflake decorations. As long as you’re not changing the flow of air or cover the vents in their entirety, you can still add all the festive flair you want. If you have vents on your baseboards, it might be a bit tougher to decorate, but at the very least, you can place some cinnamon bunches near them to improve the smell of your air.

Advantages of Having a Window HVAC Unit

During the holidays you could incorporate the window unit in your decor by hanging ornaments from the unit, decorating it with lights, or even wrapping it as a Christmas present. Just be sure you don’t block the vents or the drainage line, and you should be good to go.

So this holiday season, use your imagination and have everyone gather around your home for a festive and decorative part. Drink hot chocolate and sing Christmas carols while chestnuts are roasting near the HVAC unit.
