Hampden Dentistry and Orthodontics offers a wide range of high-quality services. But their most impressive service is their cosmetic dentistry. Having unsightly teeth can seriously diminish a person’s confidence. It makes him or her reluctant to smile (and so they may come off as aloof or unfriendly).

This practice aims to change that. The team firmly believes in providing their patients with the absolute best advice and care in cosmetic dentistry.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry revolves around improving the look of the teeth. Treatment plans could entail tooth whitening procedures, the use of veneers or crowns, or several other techniques.

Patients have different reasons for choosing cosmetic procedures. A crown, for example, may be used for both practical and aesthetic purposes. Crowns repair chipped or broken teeth. But they also make the teeth look more uniform.

Types of Procedures Used

Sparkling white teeth are not the norm for most adults. As teeth age, the enamel layers start to wear. When that happens, the teeth naturally look more yellow. While good dental hygiene can minimize the erosion of enamel, nothing can halt it completely.

Whitening

There are many whitening products available on the market. Unfortunately, most products do not contain enough active ingredients to be effective.

Why?

Whitening treatments, when incorrectly applied, can damage the tooth enamel. To prevent this from happening, regulators limit the amount of the active ingredients used in over the counter products.

Thus, it’s better (and safer) to have the whitening procedure done at a dentist’s practice. The dentist creates custom trays to ensure that the chemicals come into direct contact with the teeth but not the gums. They may combine this with laser treatments to lighten the teeth.

With these techniques, patients can expect to brighten their smile by two or three shades.

Dental Veneers and Crowns

If the teeth are very discolored, uneven, or in bad shape, veneers might be a better option. The procedure of applying veneers is simple. The dentist roughens up the surface of the teeth and then bonds it to a shell made from composite resin or porcelain.

It doesn’t matter what the teeth looked like before the procedure. The veneers hide them. This procedure is ideal for covering gaps in teeth and uneven teeth.

Crowns work in a similar way except that the entire tooth is covered. Dentists use crowns when there are only one or two teeth to cover. The dentist then molds the crown to mimic the shape of a natural tooth. This procedure is useful in cases where a tooth has chipped.
