3 Most Efficient Tips for When Your Toilet Won’t Flush
It can be embarrassing to be stuck in a situation where the toilet won’t flush. Even worse is to subject your friends and family to a bathroom with a faulty toilet. Toilets that won’t flush can also pose health dangers. Leaving sewage in the toilet bowl smells bad and can attract flies that carry disease-causing germs.
Continuing to use a toilet that won’t flush will eventually block the toilet. The three most efficient ways to keep this from happening are to use hydrojetting to completely clear the pipes, check the water level in the tank, and make sure the flush handle is working properly. By using these three tips, you’re sure to unclog a toilet in no time.
Use Hydrojetting to Clean Out Pipes
However, hydrojetting achieves a much more comprehensive cleaning and clearing of the pipe. By completely blasting the debris within the pipes using high-pressure water, the pipes are cleared entirely of build-up.
It is a good idea to routinely have your pipes cleaned to avoid clogs and make sure your system is working smoothly at all times. It is important to note that hydrojetting is best performed by a plumbing professional. If done incorrectly, it can cause further complications.
Check the Water Level of the Toilet Tank
One reason your toilet may not be flushing is if the water level in the tank is too low. If the tank does not have enough water in it, there will not be enough pressure for the toilet to flush. To check the water level in the tank, left the back of the toilet to access the tank. Slowly pour a bucket of water into the back of the tank if the water level seems low, and then try flushing again.
If this is a consistent problem, you can adjust the float arm or float cylinder. The float arm is the device within the tank that keeps the tank from overflowing. Raising it will let more water fill into the tank after each flush.
Make Sure the Flush Handle is Working
If you are pushing the toilet handle down and nothing is happening, the chain may have become disconnected from the handle. Check the toilet tank to make sure that the chain is connected to the handle and working properly.
Sometimes, the chain is too long and you need to hold the handle down a long time to flush all of the water from the toilet tank. This can easily be fixed by shortening the chain so that it hangs from the handle lever with about ½ inch of slack.
